How does he do that

    Anybody know how they get the "darn darn darn" part in the following clip. The song is "Six Days on the Road" performed by Steve Earl.

    Sounds like maybe a light overdrive. But more so, just sounds like string noise, like when your strings are a bit loose and/or you pluck the strings kindof hard.
