i know speed isn't everything, but i was just wondering how fast you guys/girls can play.

i can play 8th notes at 250 beats per minute, which is equal to 16th notes at 125 beats per minute. that is fingerstyle by the way.

Which is whole notes at 1000 bpm. Your point being?

What are you playing at 250bpm? Steady 8ths on one note? A line going through shifting harmonies? Scalar motion? Arpeggios? A melodic line with elements of both with some chromatice movement thrown in for good measure? Where are you starting in the bar, always on the downbeat? Is that a syncopated line, any rests?

And more importantly, how does it relate to what music you're playing?

It's not just that "speed isn't everything", it's that playing fast is mostly bull****.

    was that too loud?

  7. C'mon JT, you don't really expect an answer do you? I mean, if he's got his ear up against the monitor, how's he supposed to see your "was that too loud?" question? [insert Beavis & Butthead snorting sounds here].

    Another "hardy perennial" !

My favourite response was from the Nashville producer who was interviewed in an article in Bass Player, about session bass playing - he said : " I don't pay bass players to play fast, I pay them to read fast! " ;)

Of all the questions I get asked when I audtion, "what I like to wear" comes up way before "speed."

    I follow the money.
