I got a new bass and the strings seem a little high. Granted it is my first and i have no idea how low or high the strings should be. Do you like them close or far, and does it make a difference

Search the forum for threads on "string action"

  3. It is two things... Personal preference.... and making sure it is close to this personal liking but so it doesnt create fret buzz.

I will edit your title to this thread to include the word "high"

as in "how high should the strings be from the fretboard"

Yeah man... It's all about your personal preference and getting rid of all of the fret buzz if you can...
Peronally, I think the amazing thing about my bass is that the strings are really low actually, but there is no fret buzz, and it is perfect for me ;);).
    Have fun with your inotation...

  5. Brian, basically it's style of music and playing preferance.

I like my strings as low as possible but I have a light, even touch so I can set up my basses to accomadate my style.
