Hi, I know I am a horrible poet in fact I don't even know if you could call this poetry. I did have a lot of fun writing it.

How important is it for me to be right?

If you are wrong does it fill me with delight?

If I look foolish do I lay awake at night?

No of course not I just turn out the light

Why get prideful when I know that's not too bright?

I always lose when I take the bait and fight

It’s my ego that makes me tense and uptight

If you disagree should I consider it a sleight?

Nah, it’s better when we laugh and just say alright

I would rather thank you for your interesting insight

Enjoy your day be free happy and sleep well tonight

Eh, I gave up years ago on always having to be right.
There's a good compromise in there that I typically find.
I'm with Dr. Phil, there are times when I'd rather be happy than right.

Me being right is less important than the correct/right answer being known by everyone involved. The standards by which we determine what's correct/right matter even more than that. It's best to believe as many true things and as few false things as possible. Sometimes that means hurt feelings. That's okay.

Anyone who has to be right is someone I don't want to associate with. NO ONE is right all the time. And people who think they are tend to be insufferable.

I constantly propose ideas at work and open the topic up to all the folks who work with me. I may be the supervisor, but I don't exist in a vacuum and i need input from people who see other parts of the world and the work process. I try to be open to changing my mind at all times.

I'm not always right. But I'm certainly never wrong. ;)

As Daniel Boone is reported to have said “I've never been lost, but I was mighty turned around for three days once.”

Striving towards a higher level of self awareness will correct the need to be right all the time. It's a requirement for personal growth.

Look I grew up with a mom and 2 sisters, I have 3 nieces, an ex-wife plus a daughter, and now engaged. I haven't been right since I don't know when. So in my case none of your options will work for me.

I value being correct more than being right.

The distinction for me, is this:

Being correct in my presentation, attitude and facts.
Being right is often an ideal more than an empirical state.

If I believe the earth is the center of the universe and you and I can't take a ride out there to prove me wrong, then I'm right. Math and all that other mumbo jumbo only proves we can fill a lot of blank pages with figures and symbols. If you can't show me you are right then you also can't prove I'm wrong, which by default means I'm right.

Seems simple enough to me. :D

different people have different experiences in life, which lead to different opinions
what bugs me is when another feels like their opinion on something overrides your differing opinion

as long as you can respect my opinion on something & not ridicule my choices, we're fine
as soon as it turns into a mocking type of argument, I'm done
