How is this sound achieved?

    I was listening to one of my favorite bands and was wondering how this bass sound was actually achieved.

    Here is the song in question (warning: it is quite heavy):

    How is this done? Is it the bass, effects, technique? How does it cut through in such a distinct, ''metallic'' fashion?

    Seriously, for what little bass I could hear: distortion pedal of choice (DarkGlass, Big Muff, etc.) + pick. Uh, that's it. :bassist:

    I see, thanks. I wold have thought it more complex, but maybe it's just because I don't use a pick. I should try it out.
