how many effects before i need a true bypass?

    If you any effect that is not true bypass and colors your tone to your ears, you need a true bypass box. I guess the answer is as many as it takes to bother you. ;)

    With my basses and rig, I can tell the difference in tone and signal strength with just one pedal. If you don't want to build one yourself, you can buy a bypass pedal off of a dealer on the net. I use a Morgan Miller, which I bought direct from him a year ago. I don't think he sells them direct anymore. You should be able to find a dealer that carries these by searching the Net.
