Does anyone know just how limited Fender mean in term of the limited edition Geddy Lee Jazz Bass? And are/were they all made in 1998? Seems like they're everywhere. thanks

By the way, can anybody please share the images of their Geddy Lee Jazz Bass as I'm inclining towards buying one myself? Thanks!

  4. They were not all made in 1998.

As far as limited goes, it's limited to until people stop buying them.

I bought mine in 2001,It had just come in, and was still in the box. IMO it is one of the best mij Fender ever put out. I strung it up with DR high Beams 45-105. It plays and sounds great, they dont come with a case, but I got the salesman
at Sam Ash to throw in a Fender Deluxe Gig Bag.
and a set of Schaller Strap locks.

Here here! The Geddy bass rocks. I really love that neck too. I have no excuse whatsoever to purchase yet another bass but as soon as I can think of one, I think the Geddy Lee bass will be the one I get next.

Say, how are the pickups on this bass? I only had a limited test drive through an amp at a Sam Ash on it.

I never saw too many in stores, until last year when Rush returned to the Limelight (hardy har har!) with their new album and tour. Now I see one in stock at every Guitar Center. Pretty smart, that! Considering Geddy's immense popularity, I don't see them going away for many years to come.

I had to order mine from Musician's Friend. I changed the guard and knobs:

  10. That's a hell of a nice pickguard. Geddys intrigue me, I have to try one.

Thanks for the pictures guys, appreciate it.

Hey, Lizzy what kind of knobs are those? Has anybody tried to put a neck-pickup cover on these? Thanks.

Hot damn, Nino; the mirror pickgurd on your Geddy Bass is super cool!

Tell me, what kind of Seymours do you have on it? What was wrong with the stock pickups? How do the two compare.

    Thanks!

They are Q-Parts shell dome knobs. Guitar Center and Musician's Friend carry them. Mine are chrome with abalone caps. Here's a closer pic:

Not sure if they totally go with the black pearl pickguard, but kinda neat anyway.

Is the pickguard just a standard 11 hole?

(Is it easy to pick one up, or do you have to have one custom cut?)

The Geddy comes stock with an 11 hole. I don't know if it's exactly like Fender's (or other) replacement 11 hole guards, and I couldn't easily find one in black pearl anyway. So I just got a Fender American 10 hole guard, and filled in the old holes and drilled new ones. A few of the holes matched up, but I had to re do most of them. Not a huge deal.

If you want an exact match it might be best to send a tracing to someone to custom cut one in whatever material you want. Do a search on here on TB, others have done that and I don't remember who does custom guards.

They're "Hot for Jazz". I got them cheap off of TB & I put it in the bass & I liked them slightly better than the stock pickups, so they stayed in. Sold the original pu's on eBay for 2x what I paid for the Duncans, so I did good on that deal.

It currently has Sadowsky HumCancelling p/u's in it.

  20. I'm diggin' the black pickguard the way nino had it. Where can I buy one that will fit the Geddy? Where did you get yours Nino?
