Cable here. My connection regularly clocks at 1100k to 1200k. Not too shabby for cable.

When I first started using a modem, it was 300 baud. You had to dial the phone manually and then throw a switch on the modem to get it to connect.

Just for the sake of you young'uns, 300 baud is 300 bps, whereas 56k is 56,000 bps (give or take). The difference is staggering.

Of course, back then it was all compuserve and single-line bbs's, where the most graphics you had to deal with was ANSI blocks. For text only, 300 baud wasn't torture, 1200 baud was the next ztep and it was right at a readable pace for most.

Even with that legacy, I still flop around on the floor like a fish out of water when I use anything less than cable now. Amazing how you get spoiled, eh?

    256kb dsl.

Before that I had ISDN, before that 33.6kb, and before that (in 1995) I had 28.8kb.

    Can´t imagine having dial-up today.

My first modem was a 2400 baud that we used on with our Macintosh Plus (running at a lightning fast 12MHz). There was a local bbs in upstate NY that we used, but I don't remember much about it.

Anyway, I'm using a cable modem, but Charter sucks and my speeds are terrible.
  9. Cable rules, I don't know how fast it goes, but it is fast enough:D

I've got cable modem and it's hit or miss. Sometimes it's fast as all hell but other times it feels like it would be faster to just use dial up. of course there are also the times when it just doesn't work. Adelphia blows.

    Cable all the way!
  20. I'm still on the 56K train. My dad won't pay for broadband, and I can't. When I can actually connect, connection speed is usually 52K, and download speed is 5-8k/sec.
