I've seen the "500 number" mentioned numerous times, too. But interestingly enough, back at NAMM 2010, when Rebecca Dirks pressed a Fender rep for an exact number on the production run, his answer was rather evasive. Hence, I suspect the "500 number" might be a tall tale.
