I have a chance to get a 1986 Stingray for what seems like a reasonable price, anyone know the price range on these things?
  2. depends. where are you located? is this an Ernie Ball Stingray?

Music Man has been bought out by Ernie Ball in 1984.
So I guess this bass is just worth the general price of a used EBMM.
Then price may vary less or more depending on condition.

If this bass were a pre-EB, yes it would be worth much more.

  4. I'd say between 800 and 1100 depending on condition.

$1100 would be pretty high, many dealers sell them for $800.

    I'd say $600-800.

    1986 would be Ernie Ball.

I've been looking at pre-EB's too. I can't believe how outrageously high they've shot up the past year.
BassNW, right now has an awesome sounding and playing '82 Stingray, but at a $1700 price! :eyebrow: Going prices on ebarf don't really seem to be much better.

I definitely do like and prefer the sound of the original 2-band preamp/alnico pup over the late 80's-to-current models, but those prices are now starting to get a little (unbelievebly) out of reach.
