Dunno how much this helps, but my very first purchase on my very first credit card was a brand new MusicMan Stingray (3 band, sunburst w rosewood FB) in 1989 was $700. That’s apparently $1,447 in 2020 dollars.

As I recall I paid $560.00 in 1978, with case. Got out of college in 76 and was finally making some money and had time to play again. It was whiter ash but turned more yellow over the years.

Yep, closer to @ac100X above. I think I spent about $600 including a case, about 1987? I know I spent $750 for a Sabre with 3EQ and hard case in 1988 because the receipt is still taped to the tool pocket door in the case!
So depending on version, year over $500, mostly under $700.

I believe mine was about $900 back in 82' , that seemed like a lot of money back then.

Many years later (early 2000's) I bought a SR5 for only $100 more.

I am now contemplating a another SR, cant decide if I should go with the classic model or the new SR special.

It would its something that peaks my interest about every twenty years or so

I seem to recall retail in ‘87 for a 4 string StingRay was $895, and $995 for the 5 string.

Amazing instruments, and an incredible value for the money. We sold a ton, especially the 5 strings.
