Well I don't have much money so I have to spare. But one day when I become famous I'm gonna have the best strings out there.
I'm something of a bargain hunter, so I spend as little as possible. However, this doesn't mean I buy cheap strings. I just put the "Jamerson Set" on my Precision, which cost me thirty-one dollars and change (US). But if I had bought them from juststrings.com, they would have cost $42.88 plus $4.95 shipping. Juststrings has really good prices on some other strings, however. I have Elixirs on my other bass, and I think I paid $30 for them (4 string set) at Guitar Trader. I shop around. I bought a set of Rotosound 66's from the Dude a while back. I think he sells them for about 20 bucks plus $1.50 shipping. Not bad. I bought a set of SIT Rock Brights off Ebay for $12.50. So there you go. I like good strings, but I don't want to pay any more than I have to.
I wait until I can get a really good clearance deal on strings before I stock up, the most I've ever spent is $11 each for some discontinued Nickel Plated Blue Steels. Once I got a set of SR2000's for $8.
I use Blue Steel strings...... and I bougth the for about Bs.30000, that is $40 ....... to tell the truth here in Venezuela I don´t have too much choices, just Ernie Ball, D´adario, and Dean Markley, some fenders, ...... so I prefer Blue steels.
(all Just Strings prices) Thomastik-Infeld AB344 Acousticores -- $35.55 Thomastik-Infeld JF344 Flatwounds -- $35.94 Rotosound RS88-LD Nylon Tapewounds -- $32.51 Damn near had a stroke last time I went into the local G/C. Not only TI Jazz Flats, but several sets of TI Acousticores up thar' with the Swing 66's, Blue Steels, and various Fender products.
That's why I can't find them anymore! I got some on clearance at Guitar Center for like 4$ a set and stocked up at the time but then couldn't find the same type anymore. Oh well.
I spend around 60 bucks. I play 6-st and what I do is buy a 5-st set of long scale Elixer poly, and three .28 gauge DR xl`s. The Elixer`s last me about 4 times what other do and I just change my high C about once a month to keep the zing. 60 dollers is alot of money but I have found what works for me so I would rather spend the money and know I`m ready for anything than keep searching for....."that sound" whatever It may be, that is if there is such a thing. Like $12 for a set of Fender 750s, or Fender Tapercore (both 4s)...Nobody really carried anything besides Fender and D'Addario, so I never really experimented. My sext set of strings will probably be some DRs, or something. I pay what I need to get what I like...
$30 for Fodera Diamond 5-string sets. I'm going to back down a bit on the gauge once I get a 34" bass so I can go slap-crazy.
I usually buy strings off e-bay although there hasn't been to many good deals lateley last time I bought strings I got 6 sets of D-Addario XL 170's for 41 bucks plus 5 to ship them. It came to around $7.70 per set.
<b>Freddy asked...</b> <font color="#0000ff">how much do you spend on a set of strings??</font> <hr> I just bought four spiffy new DR six-string sets for about $20 each on eBay. I'd prefer to spend as little as possible but there are some strings I won't bother with. I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but if I put something on my bass (or my computers) that I don't like it just bugs me until I fix it - so I've pitched string sets less than an hour after I put them on my bass before. BTW - I restrung my shiny new SR406 with LaBellas the day after I got it. allan
About $40 for a set of seven Deam Markely sr2000's. It's $35 or so plus shipping from just strings. I have only very bad things to say about tuning peg BTW, in case anyones thinking of useing them. I had to bug them for about three months to get my strings, very lame.
