Last night my girlfriend and I were watching a movie on my computer... then BYYJJJOOOOOOUUUUUU..... my monitor goes blank.

No problem. I'll check the cable at the back of the computer. Since my cat likes it behind my computer, sometimes she pulls the cables out by accident. Nope. It's connected fine. Ok. Check the power connection. Nope, connected fine too. Ok. Try connecting the cable to her monitor. Crap! It works. So basically, my 20" just died on me, and I'm now using her tiny 15" temporarily.

The worst thing about this, is the fact that I have to go and by a new monitor, with the money I was going to spend on a Schroeder 1210. Granted, the monitor won't cost as much, but still. It's a good chunk of money that I wasn't expecting to spend on something other than bass gear!
  2. Hey,when my 21 inch Sony died a couple months ago :bawl: I pulled out a 15inch POS :spit: that I am still using. Get your priorities straight! :eyebrow: Keep using that dinky monitor and buy the Schroeder. :hyper:

Actually.... I remember having an amber monitor, back in the day.

The one good thing, my day job is working in a computer store... so I should be able to get an okay deal. ;)

Aaron: I was thinking about getting a crappy monitor from my work (could probably grab a 15" for $20), but now I figure it's time to get something good. My 20" was a sony/apple monitor. I'm dying for 1210 and a 1212 Schroeder, but I know deep down, I've been neglecting my computer too much, and this was its way of sticking it in my face. Running PT, I don't think I could handle 15" and scrolling all the time.

Go for the better monitor, get the Schroeder later.

    I have a 21" at home, and a 15" at work. I greatly dislike the 15" now.

I'd go with the monitor too. I have 2 19"s on my desktop at home. When I use my single 19" at work, it feels like I'm lacking. I like having alot of virtual real estate.
  8. I'm using a 19" and its almost too big. Granted my face is like, a foot and a half away from it.
  9. I've got a 19 at home, and a 17 at work. Just fine with me.

Oh, you probably can't read that on your tiny monitor.

    Is this better?!?!
  10. Just got a 19-incher at work. CAD/CAM has never been better.

I need one for home now for Tracktion.

    Yeah, that's what I say!

Heck I've never owned a desktop and my present 13.3" screen makes me happy!

Go get one of those $20 15" monitors and the 1210, and do it today! :hyper:

It all depends on how you use the computer. I'm in the IT field, and a small CRT monitor would cause eyestrain from the small resolution and glare. Plus I need the virtual real estate to be productive. I always have around 5-6 windows open, and have had 12 or more windows open at one time. A big screen is a must for me.

I use my eyes and computer everyday for a living, while a nice cabinet helps me make gear money.

It's a matter of priorities, and we all have different ones.
  13. Hey our drafters at work have 3 linked 19 inch flats. Still think you should go for the Schroeder...and the Aggie DB750 also...and the MTD 535.

Sounds like you need a TV and a DVD player.
  15. If you spend a lot of time looking at your screen, don't cheap out on it. A nice, big TFT might be expensive, but it strains your eyes less. If you're only using it for email and a daily fifteen-minute trip to TB you can get by with something cheaper.

I won a DVD player at my old work's Christmas party. Of course, just this summer, it stopped working.

I think I'm the designated technological payback target for 2005. Blew my power amp. Which blew an EA CXL110E. My DVD player died in the summer. Monitor just blew last night. If my spine counts as technology, there's another one... an inflammed disc pinching a nerve. Plus I just got over a flu bug going around Toronto last week.

Hmm.... I just got my BBE pre's back from the upgrade, and I picked up a RBI. RBI works great (finger's crossed), and I haven't recorded through the BBE yet... (finger's crossed).

You might want to stay away from electrical outlets and possibly give up driving...at least for a while.

They have 21"s now??? I gotta get me one of those! I use 15", it doesn't bother me, but I wish I got a 17".

Nah, 21's are outdated now, Dual 30" Apple Cinema screens is the only way to go!!!

(actually I'd settle for one, I've got the 23" on my G5 and it's sweet. The 30 brought tears to my eyes. My PCs run Dual like Jive with one running a 17 and a 19 and my laptop running it's 15" LCD alone on the road and a second 17" when I'm at my desk.)
  20. Of course you mean "pornotron."
