I'm looking into a schroeder 1212, and a Crest ca 4. How much is enought head room, right now the crest puts out 1100 and the schroeder is rated at 1000, is that enought or do i need more head room.
Sounds good to me. I think once you get into the 1000 watt ballpark you dont have to worry about too little.
I'd consider that to be very subjective to your needs. I'm currently running 350 watts into my 1210 playing in a very aggressive band. I find it adequate. I'll feel much happier when I get the proper speakon and am able to run my full 1000 though. But that power won't be necessary.
You might find it addictive though. I've been happily using 6-800 watt amps with my 1210, but I recently tried using my PLX2402 bridged into it. Even running at the same volume I normally would, the sense of control is much greater. It's really cool sounding, but I haven't found an excuse yet to do it on a gig. I had one of those moments where I couldn't put my bass down for like two hours when I tried it at home though.
Oh, I was running my bridged and clipping the hell out of my amp until I realized I had the wrong speakon. I really liked the power, headroom is definately noticable, but not a necessity. If you have the option, get as much as you can(within reason). If you don't have the option, you still don't need to worry, these are exceptionally efficient cabs.
What is this "reason" of which you speak? If you don't have the option, you still don't need to worry, these are exceptionally efficient cabs. Agreed.
Lately I've been bridging my PLX 3002 into the 1212. There's no need to crank it up but the sound is Huge and the cab has never once batted an eye.
