Brain trust: I am wondering if anyone can maybe point me to a sticky (I looked) or some kind of FAQ re the ins and outs of mailing a guitar or bass without the aid of the original packaging?

    Bueller?

Make sure you put the stamps on the headstock, or the post office will never see them.

    J/K, here are some tips:

You may be able to snag a box from the local Guitar Center dumpster.

I think I was around a feminist once, though she told me she preferred to be known as a personist.

Short of dumpster diving at Guitar Center, you could look in your local directory for cardboard / box manufacturers...get two similar sized boxes, one to house the guitar, the next to surround the first box. there should be a void completely around the inner box to accomodate foam , peanuts, or bubblewrap.

This is the minimum requirement for UPS claims, iirc, and it is just a sound idea to offer that extra protection.

Will you be shipping the guitar loose, or in its case?
