how to clean oil varnish

Discussion in 'Setup & Repair [DB]' started by toman, Aug 23, 2003.

  1. Quick question; What's the best way to clean and shine up oil varnish? I was using some Martin polish, but I ran out a while back and haven't cleaned my bass for a while. Now it's looking a little grubby...

I've been using orange oil. Not the orange scented mineral oil sold as "orange oil", but the real stuff, from a woodworking store. My luthier approves.
  3. Hm, I've heard of using citrus oils, but never tried it myself. Kolstein's instrument all does a pretty good job on my DB.
  4. Thanks for the link Jeff; from that thread it looks like good 'ole elbow grease and maybe a slightly damp cloth would be the way to go. I'd better get to work... :p
