I finish the bass with wipe on poly... like 12 coats for the neck like 6 for the body, the first coat 2parts Mineral Spirits and 1 part Wipe on Poly, the second 1 part MS and 1 part WOP, and the rest 100% on poly... when I got a little build up...sand it with 600 grip and the 2000... It worked for me :)

  4. Not clear on the title...but alas..I like this idea and something I plan on doing in the near future. Did you plane or thickness sand the body to accommodate for the top? I would think the added thickness would change things a bit..ie higher bridge, lower fretboard.

I was trying to Edit the title but I couldn't

Yes I did some planing... I use my safety, planner for the top... and my Nielsen block planer. I am not big in power tools... but i use a Dewalt random sander for most the sanding...PS 100 times better that the craftman that I throw away
