How to get a MEATY sound..?

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by ToStogyDX, May 21, 2001.

  1. Is the "meaty" kind of sound on songs obtained from pedals or amps? Can it come from pedals? Which pedals?
  2. I'm running an Ibanez Soundgear thru a little Hartke and I'm looking to get that meaty sound from a pedal please tell me what pedal can do this.

it might help to explain what you mean by "meaty"....
  4. It's pretty hard to explain meaty.... I thought most bass players knew what it is....?

I take a big ol' thick slab o' beef and place it under the strings near the bridge. At first, it mutes things a bit, but after digging in for awhile, the strings cut right down into it and the blood starts to flowing. Crank that sucker all the way up and just cook the s**t outta it!

ToStogyDX, how about you post the names of a few songs that have the sound you're looking for and then maybe someone can help you.

if I undestand you right you should put your amp in the corner of the room, if you play fingerstyle you should try to play with the sides of your fingers, slight in an angle.

you also might consider getting an amp with 15" speaker cab or even an 18"
