hi everybody ! ! can someone give indications to how make the bass growl ? (like for example in "by the way", by flea in rhcp) thanx
I've found that different people have different things in mind when they discuss "growl" in basses. What I have in mind is characteristic of the Fender Jazz bass, but you could also call it "burp". I believe it's most of all a function of the spacing of two pickups. Why do I say that? Because Jazz basses with the bridge pickup closer to the bridge ('75 reissue, Geddy Lee) seem to be growlier. But I could be wrong.
yeah I agree, I think this a very abstract term... In french we have no word in my knowledge to say that; to be more precise, growl for me is the sound geddy lee gets in the "live in rio" dvd there's a huge attack, ghost notes are really percussive, and you seem to ear the strings against the fretboard I love this sound so much, and I personnaly try to get it with my gear : jazz bass and svt 3 pro... Asap I get some extra money, I'll begin to purchase some of the required apparatus
