Now look, I don't mean Mothman weird...but what about this? Does its freakishness make it too atrocious to have, even in a collection striving for diversity? I like weird. I even sometimes like ugly. But I have my limits. Maybe. What say you?
Is it me or did somebody put Fender amplifier knobs on it. Neck and headstock look like it was modeled after a hockey sick. If I were a collector, I'd buy it.
By the way, it looks like a 1979 Model TK 300(#7627). It looks like the knobs are original and it came with a bridge cover. 1979 Gretsch guitar and bass catalogue, TK 300 Bass, and Broadcaster and Country Club Guitars
In my honest opinion had it been in dark wood it would have been a beautiful bass, or maybe even just equipped with a rosewood or ebony fret board, even if I guess the head stock does border to the definition of ugly. I don't like the fact that it only got 20 frets though. But hey, your taste might differ, and I wouldn't call it straight out weird, even if definitely something a bit different from you run of the mill typical P or J bass.
I don't get the hate for these bad boys. They're not typically but I love everything about them! Especially the hockey stick headstock
Truth is, I was also looking at it thinking that it would be a good model for a first DIY bass...easy to make those shapes.
Oh, right of cause. Just in a slightly lighter color variation than the ones I got, but I believe you are right. Still my point stands, darker colors would have suited it.
Sorry, not ugly enough. To be collectible it has to be so ugly you have to avert eyes to prevent long term damage to your retina cells. And unfortunately it's not quite kitschy enough to be a bass you'd whip out during a gig free-for-all. Nonetheless, I still wouldn't mind having it in my stable with my run of the mill looking basses.
They don't have to worry about anyone ripping off their headstock design, but I actually like the body. A smaller (or no) pickguard, and I think it would be accepted without much comment.
