I found a good deal on a Boss Flanger. Its a bit nicked up but they are only asking $30 (no adapter). I owned a Boss Flanger a while back but ended up giving it away since I never found a good use for it.

How/where/when do you guys use your flangers? Do you use them for noise/funky effects, or throughout a song, or during leads?

  2. For me a slow flanger is the perfect effect to evoke foggy mornings or gray skies... I use it for solos mostly or bass only/proeminent songs...
During the whole song a flanger can be heavy... chorus is a "lighter" version of flanger.
Phaser on the other hand (remember that a flanger is a phaser where the phase response is a straight line... check Harmony Central Effect Explained section) is a great funkfying effect... add an envelope follower, a fuzz or over drive, followed by a phaser and man...
    I know... :rollno:

I like a touch of fast flanger with short depth when I slap. I also use this kind of setting to help dead strings.
Regardless of the setting, flange always sounds good over heavy overdrive.
It's also great on arpeggios or plain chords, although I usually prefer a chorus.
Solo lines really shine. And with a delay on short feedback.

Right, slow tense buildups as well as twisty, windy clean guitar parts.

Basically whenever the bass needs a little more sound to it.

See Landslide in my sig. Boss BF-3. Used to thicken up the sound for some sections.

Whenever I want to add whoosh to a running 8th note bassline.

  8. I used my Boss High Band Flanger to trade for an Ibanez Synthesizer Bass pedal. Thanks again, J!

I use flange with pedal wah and distortion on my GT-6B to imitate the singer from Altar Bridge :p
