Random question in my head ...
what do you guys think of a P-bass with a Koa body?
(passive electronics and all those doodads like graphite reinforced neck to boost playability)

I bet it would sound great. I have a koa Carvin fretless that I've had for about 12 years, and it sounds great, and the wood is beautiful.

My bass has a very balanced sound across the spectrum; deep but articulate bottom end, and sweet highs. Of course, there are so many variables. Mine is neck-through, ebony fretless board, oil finish, active electronics, tapewound strings. I also love the way the light plays on the wood. It has that quality where it changes according to the angle you look at it. And the oil finish feels so good!
