Does anyone know what the BassBasse 600 head or 400 for that matter sound like tone wise? also what would be ther price of either the 600 or 400 in US or Can dollars? If anyone has info on the prices of the H&K cabs that would also be appreciated.., i'm on the lookout for a new rig, and i'm just exploring all the options thanks ahead of time...
I play the BassBase 400 since last summer and I'm very happy with it. The tone is full and warm and very clean, but you can also dial in some nice (preamp) tube growl. (Which does not work with every tube preamp: I had a Hartke 2000 before and it was impossible to overdrive the tube and I tested some Peavey head and the preamp sounded like farting). Recently I had the chance to compare the BassBase to an Eden WT 400 - the Eden sounds even more 'hifi' and also has a more effective EQ. But the H&K's EQ still does a good job and I like the tone of the H&K better because it's a tad more 'beefy', 'agressive' or however one can call this. BTW, the notch filter is a very useful feature too. And the BassBase 600 has two channels and supports MIDI... In Europe the price is slightly higher than the SWR Bass 350 and much lower than the Eden WT-400. Unfortunately they don't list the US-retail prices anymore since they updated their homepage - http://www.hughes-and-kettner.com/. But for what I can remember H&K amps are rather expensive in the US. To sum it up: the BassBase is definitely a high quality amp at a resonable price, at least in europe. There's also a great review at The Bottom Line: http://www.magpie.com/perl/show-dig...99/v1999.n112&list=bass&msgno=7&spat=BassBase Oh and what I almost forgot: the blue illuminated front panel looks waaay cool Matthias
the link to the TBL archive does not work. You have to go to the TBL site and use their searching machine. 'bassbase' will lead you to a review by Christian Eitner http://www.magpie.com/tbl/reviews.shtml
