    Hey all,

My Fender American professional II p-bass plays great, but is noisy, particularly when rolling up the tone pot. Is this expected behavior? I opened up the cavity and did not see any disconnected wires.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Not expected behavior. I have an AmPro ll and it does not buzz. Did you check your amp?

Not normal. P-bass is split coil so there should be 0 hum.

Yep, not acceptable. Exchange it unless they can fix. Very basic electronics.

I have 2 American Pro IIs. They don’t hum.

Sounds like a defective tone pot to me if the wiring looks otherwise fine.

  9. Maybe you need to tighten up the pots. They ground on the underside of the pickguard and may be loose. I had that problem with my MIA Performer and that did the trick. I took off the knobs and tightened the nuts holding it to the pickguard.

Thanks for the tip. Already tried an didn’t work. It’s actually not super noisy but it is noisy. I’m gonna have to go to the store and see how abnormal it is compared to another bass there.
