Does anybody have experience regarding which humcancelling pickups Mike Lull USUALLY uses on the M5V bass ? And how do they sound together, and individually ( solo bridge, and solo neck ) when compared with the standard single coil pickups ?

I have found Lull basses to have a fairly hifi sort of sound. Not quite Sadowsky Hifi, but definitely more modern sounding than a passive Fender Jazz. As I recall, the pups worked very well when solo'ed. That is, I don't recall a bunch of hum, if any. They are super well made instrument!

Thanks. I traded a fretless 5 string that I have no gigs for, for a Lull M5V, and I'm having humcancelling p'ups put in because I solo the bridge p'up a lot, and I've heard of associated noise. I am due to get this bass I hope within some weeks from a dealer I am familiar with. So any info' on the custom humcancelling p'ups Lull uses would be just fine

I don't have direct experience with an M5V, but I own an M4V. Mine has Lindy Fralin hum cancelling jazz pickups along with an Aguilar preamp. First off, there is no hum of course. Second, compared to the 4 or 5 Fender Jazzes that I've owned over the years, the bridge pickup of the M4V sticks out in comparison. I find it to be a very useable tone compared to the Fender. It's "thicker" and has more presence, IMO of course. I have found the Lull jazzes to be far superior to the Fenders in every way. I think you'll be very happy.

  6. You might try to message a guy on here (he's also on youtube) who goes by the name VroomVroom. He's also posted in the Mike Lull thread. IIRC he owns several lull fives with different p/u's including the Duncan linear humbuckers that Mike uses. Another guy who's a wealth of knowledge is Darryl Anders who's an endorser on Lulls website. He also has some great youtube clips. You can try his link on Mike Lulls website. Last I remember, he also works for Dunlop in Benicia, Calif. You could try calling them and asking for Darryl.

Thank you. That's good to know. I am really looking forward to getting the bass. FYI, it's tobacco body finish with maple neck, and I got the dealer to install a tortoise pguard on it. I will try to put up pics when I get it. :)

Thanks, Lowstrung 5. I did as you suggested, and got a reply that was cool. I think they are going to use the Seymour Duncan h/c p'ups on the bass. Thanks again. :bassist:

:):cool:OK. I got the Mike Lull M5V with the humcancelling pickups. I will post some pic's as time goes by. My opinion ? The sound is GREAT, the action is GREAT, the look (sunburst with tortoise guard & maple fretboard) is GREAT, and IT is GREAT. I am lucky enough to own two Sadowsky's, and based on this Lull, I see another Lull in my future. GREATness all round. Now if only some of that could actually rub off on me :bassist::hyper:
