Hey guys I need help to identify / estimate that one:

Gibson Bass serial # 81197620, made in USA, with a Victory body, Explorer headstock, Custom Shop Edition.

A guy here in Abu Dhabi wants to sell it, but he has no info on it...
I sent a mail to Gibson, but I know the best source of information is to be found on this forum.

The bass is in poor condition : yellowish (originally white?) finish, bad action and rusty strings, few scratches and bumps... But still a joy to play, lovely neck, and such a powerfull amazing sound! I think a little bit of care could transform it into a killer axe!

So according to you, what is that bass exactly? What would be a good deal for it?

Well thanks a lot for the help!

It sounds more like an Epiphone with a Gibson sticker slapped on it if it has a hockey stick headstock. I wouldn't give more than $200-250 for it depending on its condition

Epiphone? well it was my first reaction when I saw it: that's no gibson bass!

But it has gibson bridge, pickups, metal logo in the back at the neck/body junction, gibson tuners, and the 'made in USA and serial number engraved in the back of the head... so i'm not sure cos i'm no specialist, but it looks like a gibson to me.
Sadly, I don't think the guy will sell it for 200$.

Well some new info about it:
According to the people at Gibson, it's a 1987 custom shop q-80 in alpine white with blackhardware.

Any help on estimating its market value?
