Hymns and Worship Music

Discussion in 'Recordings [BG]' started by count_funkula, Oct 18, 2001.

  1. Can anyone reccommend a CD of some good southern gospel stlye hymns? We play a lot of things like "Nothing but the Blood", "I'll Fly Away", etc. The newer stuff I'm really good at but these older songs I pretty much play the same Root/5th thing on all of them. I would like to listen to some different versions of these classics to get some new ideas. The only problem is there are about a million different recordings of these songs so I don't know what to buy. I would like something that is really bass driven.

    Thanks in advance.

This is in absolute contrast to my reply to Relman above about classical music, but I honestly feel you might find an extensive list of gospel recordings at All Music Guide.com.

Hopefully, others here will have better answers, but while you wait for their responses, you could check the web site and do a search by song title, by gospel group or by the genre "gospel" or Southern spirituals.
