I’m from Jersey. Are you from Jersey?

Discussion in 'Off Topic [BG]' started by Mike88T, Aug 13, 2004.

  1. Well not yet, but at the end of August I am moving to Atlantic City, NJ.

So any TBrs out there in the area let me know what’s happening around the area that might be worth looking into. I think my friend, who lives there, doesn’t really have a clue about any local music scene if there is one as his idea of a ‘music scene” is going to the Aerosmith concert three times, just kidding I just want other perspectives.

Just happens that the offices of the company I’ll be working for are right next door to a music shop and I stopped in after I had lunch with the comptroller. Guys seem nice enough and they have a guy there who teaches bass so I may end up taking lessons once I settle in. Anybody ever heard of the Pleasantville Music Shoppe? The company I will be working for are moving their offices by the time I get there but it just seemed like a sign.

Anyhow I just thought I would share my good turn of fortune. Funny how two months ago life sucked and now it looks pretty good.

Gosh I feel so upbeat! :D

PS: If you get the reference in the title of this thread then, YOUR OLD! :p

    I'm from Jersey!

Dream Theater is coming to your town late in August. Maybe you'll be able to catch them.

  4. My family is going up to Union City for Christmas; my brother-in-laws family is there.
  5. You just missed Hellfest, a yearly meeting of hardcore/metal/punk rock bands in Jersey.

I' from Chicago, so the only reason I even looked at the thread was because the title caught my eye. Probably the only funny thing Joe Piscopo ever did....well maybe that and Johnny Dangerously :)

I'm not "from" Jersey, but I spent a lot of time there. Maybe ten years or so. Mostly it was around the Middletown area, Holmdel, Tinton Falls, places like that. And Plainsboro, Princeton, Cherry Hill, around there. There's a nice little music shop in Red Bank, if you're ever up that way. One of the best things about Jersey used to be the pawn shops, not sure what they're like now, but as recently as a few years ago there were still some killer deals to be had.

  9. I'm coming to take away your women.

And yes I will be charging the usual fees. :D

  10. I have mostly spent time in the Atlantic City area the number of times I have been up there, and yes I noticed a lot of pawnshops. The ones in AC are filled with Jewelry wonder why. ;)

But seriously that’s good to know, I’m sure there are ones farther out I could check out.

  11. Last name ? I might know them. Only about 80,000 people in my town ^^.

I work in Red Bank... great little town. I'm living in Toms River for the last few years. I was born in West Paterson, went through school living in Ogdensburg.

I'm just up the parkway from AC... I know some people that work in the casinos.

So Jersey people... can you believe the Gov'ner or what!!! I actually knew when he first ran against Christy... I've got a family member connected with McGreevey's ex-campain team.

All along my dad's been saying, "Who's he trying to fool, that guy's gay..." So when he came on the air the other day (wasn't it yesterday?) he was giving this long speech and we were like, "Just say it; you're gay." Then he did. We were both like

Yeah, some of the best ones we encountered were close to the bridges and tunnels (go figure). Up in Hoboken, Newark, and Jersey City. There was a really good one in East Brunswick, I got a Bo Diddley box guitar with trem and case there for fifty bucks.

when and where? My folks moved me to Ogdensburg in 1973 and I moved to the Shore about the time they moved to Lafayette.

I graduated from Wallkill Valley Regional in 86 (in Hamburg).

I've lived in northern NJ for about 3 years now. AC is fun, don't gamble all your money away! I haven't been to a pawn shop yet, I'll have to look for some. The music scene is really very active here. There are lots of emo bands and some are hitting it big. In Asbury Park you can still hear original music 6 or 7 nights a week. The cover scene is very big here in the north and all along the shore through the summer -- the best gigs are controlled by booking agencies but there's still enough other bars/clubs for independent bands to get shows. I'm not sure about how AC works but I would think there are casino gigs for people at a pro level. Some of the AC cover bands seem to also play the shore further southward into MD. Congrats on your move!
