I have a 15 year old daughter that I tried my best in embracing "bass" into her life from when she was young. She dabbled in it a bit but initially chose to play Cello and Keyboard, which is noble and I was good with that. Then came the day that she decided to embrace drums and start drum lessons, I was pleasantly surprised and ecstatic about the possibility of jamming with her as the rhythm section. Lo and behold, last week, she has been following a great up and coming band here locally, they lost their bass player and my "mini-me" said the magical words that absolutely satisfied my bucket list "Dad, I want to learn the songs of the Stripes so I can fill in for the bass, can you teach me ?"...... I am on Cloud 9 right now !!!!!!..... my baby is playing bass !!!!!!.... I am so proud that I must share with my Low End Brethren :
On a Jazz Plus fiver. The four string Plus has been my number one since i got it in the early 90’s. It is the easiest playing most versatile sounding bass i’ve ever owned. After all these years i still love mine. Dad has given her a big leg up on bass playing with that instrument.
Nice! I'm holding out hope for my 15 year old. She's played piano and is now focused on vocal performance/musical theater. I still offer her the chance to jam around on my gear but so far has not taken me up on it. Showed promise a few years ago with guitar so I bought her a Baby Taylor that's since been gathering dust. A glimmer of hope: every time she wants to download music, it's always modern rock. The other day in the car Zeppelin came on and she asked if she could turn it up!
Awesome job, Dad! Although, your daughter gets most of the credit for switching to the correct instrument. I'd give the dog a bone, but he's asleep.
There is hope for sure !!!!!!...I honestly had given up that she would be interested and really start diving into bass. Now I haven't said anything yet, but if things progress correct and she can learn that band's songs, I was planning on inviting the band to open for my band in September, how incredible would it be to share a show with my baby !!!!!!!!!....I am keeping my fingers crossed on that one. If for some miracle that happens, I tell you what, I will be complete
Not even close... when it happens, I'll expect a gig report, with food pics for @dbase, at 3 days out of said jam... ... carry on.
Nice! I can only get my daughter to play a ukelele. But it's adorably hilarious to hear her covering Snoop Dogg on it! haha
...and you can post these in the "Spoiled Pooch" thread in the Off Topic Forum. I also see a very early issue of Bass Player framed. And the '70s era Fender poster. And the Doors album. Very cool. Here's my Doors' album-
