Well, maybe in the name of insanity :)

This is (used to be) an American Pbass 5. Out went the pickguard and pickup and I dont think it's hard to guess which pickup is going to come in at the sweet spot :)

Also, a Pretro preamp is going in there. It will be the first time I use this preamp so I hope this experiment works.

  2. Couldn't you have butchered a cheaper P bass for this experiment? Actually, I don't really care. I hope it turns out great for you.

If you wanted to see how fast it burned in the name of science, I'd be cool with it. (it is your property, right?) Science is good.

Also, I love that finish. Doesn't look super glossy.

You should put a Lakland bridge on there...might as well take heat for dumping the beloved Fender HMV bridge too!

I assume you are putting a musicman style pickup in there, so why is the hole oval shaped?

Looks like it will be unique. Would consider swapping the bridge too.

Honestly, I would have bought a black MightyMite body, and put the US body in the closet. That being said, you are gonna have a really cool bass when its finished. It's lost its value, but if you have no plans on selling it then that doesn't really matter.

And +1 on the Lakland bridge.

Its going to play like a P and sound like a very modern bass with that pickup.

I say mod on! It's your bass and money, you do what you want with it. I think it'll be awesome when it's done. I'd really like to hear what the delano is going to sound like when you put it in there. I would think it'd sound awesome! That's the first pup I thought of when I saw the pic you posted. Good stuff.

Thanks :) Indeed a Delano Bass Xtender pup is going in there.

With regards to modding such a bass - I have a couple of MMs and Laklands I play and a very cool custom Roscoe on the way. This Pbass was not getting any action and I decided to mod it to something cool. I am not the least worried about it losing it's value - I have more than one bass I moded and I am lucky to be in a financial position that allows me to play around with basses I don't use all that much. Hopefully I will start playing this one from now.

WOHA!!!! A Lakland bridge! How didn't I think of that!!!!

    "Congratulations, you now own a $1200 soapdish" - naa man, here is a $1200 soap-dish :)

Not that would be kind of trippy with the round pickup and round bridge on a P body.

    Either way, keep us posted!
