what's the secret? I can move my body a little, my legs a little, but I am very jealous of bassists who can literally dance in time and still play without screwing up. I can sing and play, no problem. but not dance and play. I tend to get stuck in one spot too much. I end up only kinda doing basic rock moves.

I have lead legs it feels like. how can a bassist have so little natural rhythm? :)

I need an instructional video :)

yes, I can dance pretty good for a guy my age, and yes, I can sing and dance at the same time. something about playing the bass (probably my concentration on what i'm doing) that tends to freeze me in one spot

    LOL

  5. When I dance, my left arm tends to extend outward and slightly upward. My right hand is down near my belt.

    Trying to figure out why....

Keep working on it, it's really cool.
I saw Abe Laboriel dance to his solos once, he was
    incredible.

I can dance and play but have troubles with singing and playing. The brain is so fascinating!

  17. I think a lot of people can dance but they don’t because they worried about what others will think they look like dancing, I call is self conscious paralysis. When I first started gigging I was a statue on stage. Now I find it difficult to stand still while playing. I think the biggest hurdle is just playing enough to be relaxed on stage enough to not care what people think

I have the other problem, even though I'm old and creaky, I can't stand still. Just wear an angry face, you'll be fine.........and your shoes will last longer too :)

Q: Do you know why I’m a musician?
    A: So I don’t have to dance :D

It’s never pretty when I dance...with or without a bass.
It’s amazing that I have the sense of rhythm that I do in my hands and voice but my limbs just flail around like chickens with their heads cut off. I learned my lesson years ago. I love to play and sing but I’ll leave the dancing to others.
