Sorry but I have to gloat a little bit here, after years of my girlfriend picking on me for nerding out about different styles of basses and her rolling her eyes at me when I buy a new one, I got her to play one that she fell in love with! She has always been supportive of me when I want to get stuff but never understands what im talking about really lol. But the other day she started plucking around on my acoustic electric she bought me for our anniversary a while back and mentioned that she wished they made a smaller size bass as she would be interested in playing if the necks weren't so long. I looked at her and said like a short scale bass? Thats a thing she asks? Next day we head up to our local music shop and I show her what a short scale bass is and she says its perfect. I made her try a few different brands to find one that was the most comfortable for her, Music 6000 only has 3 or 4 I think so it went quick, she fell in love with the Squire Jaguar they had and we took it home that day
That's GREAT!!!! Congrats to you both!!!! (Now, get cracking on polishing up your theory and technique before she gets better than you!!! )
Joe: Haha thats what I told her, she said she was stealing one of mine Drummer: Thanks man! Caca: From someone with no interest in playing music whatsoever when we got together. GKon: No kidding! I am getting a little rusty Ogle: Yeah they were having a small sale for Fourth of July weekend, got an extra $15 off, not much but it was already super cheap!
Cool! Looks like a perfect fit in her hands. My wife once asked why I have so many basses (34). I started telling her about them....this has flats, this one rounds, this one is active, that has a humbucker, etc, etc. but she stopped me and asked, but why all of them? Don't they do the same thing? I just turned to her, looked her in the eye, and said, "Honey, I have so many of them, because God said I could only have one of you." She smiled and never said anything about it again.
Deanyo- I loved seeing this! She really does look happy! I started on a short scale too. Turns out my fingers just needed to get 'warmed up' before I switched to a full size so I hope you don't think your other basses are safe pflash- That is so sweet of you to say! I may need to borrow that line someday, if you don't mind?
pflash: That is a great line, thats awesome, I may have to use it one day as well lol BumbleB: I don't mind sharing in the lest!
It was a moment of inspiration. Of course, if it helps you all out (especially with GAS flare ups) by all means, use it!
Hmm.... Does it just so happen the new bass she now owns, is the bass you've been GASing for? If so, great strategy.
