I really like Fender P/J Basses..saw this and wondered what the T.B. community thought of this bass.. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/ONE-OF-A-KIN...s-/221530627211?pt=Guitar&hash=item3394411c8b
The big pickguard gaps around the P pups and the "unusual" cover around the Jazz pup looks, um... less than elegant to me.
The bridge pickup is a single coil p pickup and as thus the pole pieces are misaligned, the guard around it is no doubt to cover up some less than stellar routing. I think the one at fault is whoever put this thing together and/or modded it, I've seen parts from this company before and they look to be high quality, I came close to buying a bridge from them at one point.
I can think of several Fenders, Laklands, Carvins, etc. that I'd buy instead. For instance this Fender Hot Rod Or this California Custom Shop Schecter Both on ebay for 1/3 the price. By the way, that Texas Customs bass is on reverb.com It's $2,750...make offer.
It features "authentic" pickups. It has to be good. http://www.texascustoms.us/id20.html (scroll down)
Am I the only one who just doesn't get it? Why is a chunk of wood with strings worth $3000? I fully understand quality of the wood, setup and aall the subtleties required to build a quality instrument, but these prices are just silly money.
Yes, the P pu flange cutouts are way off and very obviously so - devils in the details when you start asking that sort of price. Considering they used a single-coil in the bridge position, they sort of had to do a surround to allow the side screw height adjusters. Functionally sound but not the most graceful aesthetic touch.
The bridge is solid, but is a very inexpensive part sold by AllParts. http://www.allparts.com/BB-3410-002-Economy-Bass-Bridge-Gold_p_597.html Too bad they didn't order an AllParts pickguard, too. It would have fit better. EDIT: And this... "I have small hands... Thanks for looking!" The guy just outed himself, right there on Ebay.
As awful as this bass is, the answer is always the same to these weekly, "Is [fill in the blank] worth it?" An item is worth exactly as much as someone will pay for it; no more, no less. No one else can answer the question "Is it worth it to you."
Some of the basses on their site look nice. This one, not so much. There's nothing there that says $3,000 to me.
