I didn't know Ampeg made basses

  1. Yep, in addition to that scroll bass and the Baby Bass, there was the imported Stud bass. Were there any others?

Yeah, there were a few different models. All collector's items now.

Not to mention this. More knockoffs of this exist than the real thing by far, and some of them are selling for ridiculous money.

The amp behind him - B15N? Blurry in that pic, wondering whether it's the same model I grew up on (and now have a replacement downstairs). Looks like it might be an earlier model though. I did see video of him on stage, I think it might've been The Last Waltz, even, using the exact same model though.

Yes, though perhaps something of an "acquired taste", the scrolltops in particular have a very dedicated following - there's at least one custom luthier out there making new ones, even.

I own a '68 AMB-1 fretted scroll head bass strung with Labella flats, it sounds like a bass is suppose to sound, fat, punchy, articulate. Great basses and yes Bruce is the man when it comes to all things Ampeg scroll bass related, builds a killer scroll bass, check him out at Johnsons extremely strange music co.

When I first read that I thought, "Yeah, ugly ones." ....and I was right again, haha. Of course it's all subjective but I've never been a fan of the Ampeg basses, regardless of the variety. Surely, there are many others for the very same reasons I do no!

Here's mine, a Modded Hybrid AUB/AMB. Sounds Great, Plays OK. (Like a Good Truck!) These are Very Collectable because there aren't very many. But there's a reason they didn't sell...

I've been staring at that craigslist ad for what seems like years. It gets listed and then disappears usually a week later only to be reposted a month after that. The price has always been the same...for some reason I've never even been curious about the thing. It really isn't anything even close to something I'd want.

    Neat looking though :)
