How about trying to use your fingers the next time? I've heard you can get some really trippy sounds out of that! ;)

  7. Well, however mundane Oysterman's life is, I can't appreciate it when he makes fun of someone for doing something new.

Mr BP13 sir, I will try your eraser technique.

I'm sorry, but to me, playing bass with an eraser is like trying to drive a car by lying on your back, using one foot on the wheel, another for the pedals and looking through the windscreen using a periscope. It's "new", and will definitely change the way you drive, but is is any use?

I would be careful, because it's commonly known that an eraser is a "gateway pick", like all school supplies are. Common usage will cause the user to experiment, ultimately moving on to household appliances, and, finally, consumer electronics.

Ease up, fellas. Oysterman is one of the nicest guys on Talkbass. That little ";)" at the end of the post is what indicates that there was probably no harm intended. Now, if he ended his post with "I heard you can get some trippy sounds out of that you no talent loser!", then, yes, it would be an issue. But he didn't. Let it go.

Well, I guess I have a couple in my laundry basket that I don't care much of - PayPal is accepted. ;)

Nah, I wouldn't call it a fan club. John Turner has a fan club. I just have some friends. Ah well, that's better than nothing I suppose! :D

it's of use if it makes a pleasing, useful and musical sound.

the purpose of driving is to arrive at one's destination safe, unharmed, and with all possible dispatch. the process is less important than the destination.

the purpose of playing music is to create living art that entertains. it's ALL about process.

yeah, and i also have a hate club - you should see it. still, though, if nobody hated me i would think i was doing something wrong.

btw, i downloaded that tune with uncle tomo - sounds really great, i dug it. :D did you use eraser-technique to record it?

The purpose of driving is NOT only about the destination. See the dream car thread in OT. For that big dude in FL who started BSB, N'Sync etc, the purpose of music is $$. My point, to each their own. I happen to appreciate a witty dissenting opinion as much as I appreciated hearing about the guy playing bass with an eraser.

I'd say that the process of driving a car is of UTMOST importance if you want to arrive at the destination safe and unharmed! If you drive using a periscope, you are definitely more likely to cause an accident than if you drive the recommended way (sitting up, watching your mirrors, being defensive and keeping the speed limit).

OK, so now I'm just being silly. This has nothing to do with cars.

    I'll shut up. ;)

  18. i have a big fat rubber washer in my practice room that i use once in a while, i've actually thought about cutting something more pick-like out of an old tire or something....

and I drive my car naked, standing on my head, steering with my choad and shifting with my knee.
