Yesterday I bought a Aguilar GS112 cab, I wanted something portable. I also bought a Eden Nemesis NA320 head. I am new to bass, I did have a Crate 160 bass combo years ago, but this is the first time I got head and cabinet. I didn't do any research, I just went out yesterday afternoon and bought the stuff since i just joined a band as bass player and need gear. manual says the head produces 350 watts into a 4 ohm cab, or 200 watts into 8 ohm cab. 4 ohms is louder than 8 ohms? So if I plugged into 4 ohm cabinet it would be louder? My cabinet is 8 ohms so if I plugged into TWO cabinets, it would be twice as loud? better to get a louder amp, or another cabinet? I've always played electric guitar, in combos, i have no idea what I'm doing with cabs and heads.
4 ohms will be louder than 8ohms, but not twice as loud. 4 ohms will pull the maximum power from your amp. However, the difference in loudness will have more to do with the extra speaker than the extra power. Just FYI, your amp does 200 watts at 8ohms and 320 at 4. You would need about 2,000 watts to be twice as loud as 200 watts (its not intuitive). But, it would sound significantly louder because of the extra speaker moreso than the extra power you'd be getting. Just make sure you use another 8 ohm cab, do NOT use an 8 ohm cab and a 4 ohm cab together as you will likely fry the amp. You can use either 1 cab @ 4ohms or 2 cabs @ 8 ohms each. Each results in a total 4 ohm load on your amp and draws the maximum power, but the 2 cab setup is probably the louder of the two, all other things being equal. BTW, thats a very sweet little setup. You should add another GS112 or GS112NT when you're ready to get another cab and you would have a very formidable mini-stack.
