and i got a good deal on it too! I did find the neck to be a bit dodgy- not exactly straight. It had some bends in it. Also, the tone pot rubs against the metal. I tried to pull it up but i might have to sand that down. Also, did anyone else have a problem with some noisy pickups? Other than that its a fantastic bass for the price and it might be replacing my p-bass. Why do i keep going back and forth between jazz and p ?
Got pics? Earlier this week I picked up a Squier FVM Fretless, I'm dig'n it. After a good setup, it plays & sounds great. Here's some pics - enjoy
ive got the 70's, dropped in dimarzio model j's and bart a/p pre, killer sound, havent had any qc problems with mine, sounds great plays awesome, tons o mids
i would post pics but for some reason when i take pictures on my camera they are way to big to attach to the thread. how do i change the file size to make it fit the dimensions required?
I just rented a used one in amazing condition for $16 a month - how could I resist? It's a lovely bass. Congrats!
I love mine, but I can't quite get the action as low as I like it. It also feels very stiff, but that could be a string issue. It's going down for some serious mods on Sunday. Kahler bridge, Villex pickups, all kinds of fun stuff.
I have the VM fretless like the one posted above and the only thing I am thinking about changing is the pickups (although I may not either...) I think they sound pretty good but are pretty noisy depending on the room. Has anyone changed theirs out on the fretless and if so, what did you go with? How did it change the tone? I personally love the Jaco nasally fretless tone and would like to stay in that neighborhood.
If you have a Windows PC use Paint (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Paint). Resize it and be sure to save it as a .jpg file, as opposed to a .bmp file.
I use fender nylon filaments on mine, really low tension, but believe me there is still plenty of growl in em, better pops and slaps than most roundwounds at least the one's they sell around here, but offer an awesome jazz/reggae tone when you back off the tone knob. really brings out the midrange nature of my bass
I had two in the past both where fantastic after a set up. But one was stolen and then I sould the other with only an audere pre amp the stock pick ups sang thru it
Love mine after I had the pickups, controls, & bridge replaced. It gets played all the time and it sounds great for having ~$500 total into it. The basses really come alive with a professional set up, if you bought it from GC or MF, or somewhere like that, I would take it to a local guitar shop and see if they can set it up for you. Pic's of mine
Those are all great looking basses! You've got me green with jealousy. While on the topic of set ups, I took my Squier P bass up to Dave's Guitar Shop in La Crosse, WI to have it looked at. I was supposed to be in Iowa City for today and tomorrow for orientation so it seemed like a good time to drop it off. It got rescheduled due to flooding, so now I don't have it to play with. Good thing I've got that LTD. At any rate, while I was at Dave's, I took a look around and picked up a Mexican Jazz. Good grief! I fell in love with the thing. I crave a Fender Jazz now. I can't get a new bass this soon, but I've looked into all the Squiers as well. I really want the black block inlay on the neck, which I haven't found on any Fenders, aside from the Geddy Lee Jazz. I can't wait to go back and play a Jazz again. And pick up my P bass, too, I suppose.
you can select a lower resolution on the camera, 1-3MP actually often does fine if you are not planning to print them pictures
Love mine and really like the tone of the stock pups, just keep the volume controls even otherwise you will get unwanted noise or 60 cycle hum, I hear this is common on these single coil pups. you will enjoy this bass. I got a pro setup on mine and a nice thick strap "this bass feels heavy" now the action is nice and low and plays very well.
