I got a stingray today!

    Well, I picked up a used 4 string musicman stingray today for $700 and I LOVE it.. Best sounding bass I've played to date.. I'm running it through a gk1001rb bass amp and it sounds fabulous.. I think my G.A.S. is cured for a long time! ;) Btw, it's black with a sorta slate grey pickguard. I think it's the same one flea plays on his starlicks video ;P heh..

    The bass body is black, but the pickguard is sorta an off black (kinda grey).. The headstock isn't matching, but looks cool that way (maple colored).. How can I figure out the date on it? Is there some kind of serial number database?

    I don't have any pics at the moment, but it looks worn in nicely.. Has some nicely located scratches smudges, looks truly oldschool ;P I think it's early to mid 90's, it has the optional string mutes on the bridge.. Not using em though..

    The black ones are pretty nice.
    I like the color of my Sterling, though.
    (white body, white headstock, black/white/black p/g)

    I got a Stingray 5 a couple of months ago and I love it. Its the ultimate rock tone, brash and in your face.

    Actually, this forum doesn't "worship" any single bass.
    There's tons of liked basses.
    Seeing it as you're new to this site, I'm trying to be as polite as possible in stating that. :)

    Secondly, it's a good thing to fill your profile out, so people can answer questions that you might ask.

    I emailed ernie ball the serial # and they said that it's a 1992 model. It's the same bass flea plays in the starlicks video (if anyone has seen it or owns it).. I think the the earlier 90's models are better than the new ones tone wise.. But this is only a very general observation ;)

    I think rays are nice.They have that signature sound and look.The neck is a bit too fat for my small hands though :( Do you think that is something one could adapt to?

    Anyways hope you kick some ass with that MM dude!!!

    sterlings have thinner necks....

    people will argue that they don't sound like a stingray though....

    I don't like stingray/sterling 4's at all. They feel weird for my right hand. However, I think if I do end up getting a 5, it'll be a EB seeing as they are good quality for such a low price. I like how close together the strings are and I can rest my thumb on the 5th string. Comfy!
