I just got two used Ampeg SVT cabs for only $400.
One is the SVT 410 HEN (the 4x10 that handles 500 watts as opposed to the 410HE's 400 watts.), and the other is the SVT115E. These cabs are in MINT condition. I got them from a guy whose amp head was stolen, rendering his cabs useless. Plus he didn't want them any more. Now I need a head. I love Ampeg tone, and the preamp/poweramp setup is an option. But for now, lets talk about Ampeg heads only. I've considered the SVT 3-Pro. It sounds great, but I don't know if it will deliver enough headroom or volume. Maybe I should go with this head for now, but if I ever need more power, I can get a poweramp and feed it with the SVT 3-Pro's line out. Anyway, please give me your input on which Ampeg head you would go for. I don't know if the SVT 4-Pro is an option ($$$), cause I need a head soon.

    Thanks in advance,

    Dan

  2. I play a b2r from the same cab (but just the 4x10) I don't know if the 350 watts would be enough for you. You might want to consider the b5r. If you look on ebay you can probably pick one up for around 500-600 bucks. If you get that setup it will be the last one you ever need;)

  3. Dan,I was just on ebay and they have some decent
ampeg heads up for bid.Prices are not bad.

If you want the B5R I know that www.bassnw.com
has some new ones for $599.00 in their "special sale items" section.

Just passing it on.You lucked out on the cabs man!!
I need cabs in a bad way! lol

Hey lo-end, I have a question. How do you run the SVP-PRO through the Mackie? Isn't the SVP mono? Do you use one side of the Mackie? I've wanted to get a SVP-PRO & a power amp but that always confused me. Thanks.

actually, this is just what Im guessing. You should ask Falsehood Bass because he actually has the Mackie M1400 and Ampeg SVP setup. I've only played through it, I didnt actually hook it up. :D

I know you were looking for "heads" only, but I have to suggest the pre/power route as well. My SVP-Pro is on it's way. I'll be dumping the SVP pro into a PV CS1200 pushing 600 watts into my SWR Triad and the other 600 watts into my SVT-410HLF. I can't wait!

The only Ampeg head I tried was the SVT4-Pro. Friggen' amazing. Almost enough to convince me to dump the CS1200, but not quite. I've always like the flexibility of the pre/power setup.

    Keep it low,
