Sorry if this has been posted before. I have a bit of a psychology hobby and and freaked a few TR'ers out one day with an example of how your mind's expectancy set works.

I got this on the email today. It's another perfect example.........

"Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't
mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt
tihng is taht frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset
can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs
is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a
    wlohe".

  7. man, i love stuff like this!

this reminds me of the thing like this:

try to say the COLOR of the word at first glance, not the word.

    red green blue black

    not easy eh?

    cool stuff :)

That's all very well for short common words that we can infer from their place in simple sentences.

But more complex words or ideas can be made nonsensical by doing this.

So what about a word like Rogue - that gets mis-spelled as Rouge - which means something quite different!! ;)

    Or longer words like :

    Who are Skvcsthaooih or Seckusoactn?

    { Shostakovich or Stockhausen? }

..in all fairness, though, you dont expect them words all that much; "...[it works on] how your mind's expectancy set works".

Its like going to a traffic light and hearing an airhorn, your expantcy would melt down.

I bet that word/mind thing works only in computer type though and not at all in handwriting - theres one for the beardies whoever made it.

strangely i did get shostakovich immediately, just like the text above, but stockhausen was too hard. it probably depends on the familiarity with the words, as i've not only used the name "shostakovich" more often than "stockhausen" but also not too long ago.
