I was on my way to a gig, taking my beloved MM sterling HH with me. I open up the case, the bass looks like it was submurged in water and then air dried .. no strings on it. the neck was all wavy, the fingerboard was off in places because the neck looked like it was a snake. The body was curled up in the corners like a potatoe chip. I was in tears. LOL. Again, this is only a dream! A very weird .. vivid dream. I woke up and had to play my beauty for a few minutes to show her some love. haha.
I once dreamt I was given two 60s p basses by some kind old studio musician. It was so vivid it could've been real! When I awoke I glanced in the direction of my bass gear in the corner and realised it was all a lie I blame TB.
I had a dream recently that I ordered a Rickenbacker 4003, and when it arrived, it was covered in pink and green fur. The pickups were little miniatures of the Brooklyn Bridge. And it all seems perfectly reasonable in the dream.
I once dreamed I WAS a bass, and I was getting the crap pounded out of me by some overzealous slap player. I've been more gentle with my basses since...
I've had a really weird one a while ago where this lizard-man kind of creature had my bass(which was a fender jazz although I own a warwick thumb in real life) and it was smashing it into a palm tree, pulverizing it. I got really pissed off and tried to punch the lizard but there was no power in my punches, like in a lot of my dreams... weird!
I had a similar dream where my Warwick Thumb had dried out and developed a crack. The crack got worse and went all the way through the body. The hardware and strings were barely holding it together. First thing I did the next day when I got up was give it a darn waxing.
That is a nightmare indeed. The original poster's decription is exactly the way my Alembics looked when I got home after hurricane Katrina. Like a potato chip. I have pictures of the edges curled up just like you describe. If I was not at work right now, I would post a pic or two.
This thread is a nice laugh! The bizarre dream descriptions first thing in the morning is making me think of old Saturday morning cartoons for some reason.. Except today is Monday and I have to go to work soon.. I thought it was interesting how you mentioned that this was your "first" bass dream. It's cool because I recently had my first bass dream as well.. It wasn't anything as exciting as *angry destructive lizard men, Brooklynn Bridge pickups, or secret fetish dreams of being beat into submission .. It was very simple.. I was just playing way more fluidly than I'm able to in real life and was just jamming out and enjoying myself.. The dream didn't last long and I don't remember what I was playing in it either... Subscribed! I can't wait for more bizarre dream stories! *angry destructive lizard men I just wanted to say I relate with the "no power" comment. I often dream that I'm trying to run, except that my legs feel very sluggish, almost dead.. I can hardly move my legs at all and usually end up trying to grab the ground with my hands and struggle to pull myself along.. I hate those dreams..
Worst ones are the falling dreams. When you wake up when you "hit the ground", half jumping out of your skin. Scary stuff.
I've had a few dreams similar to OP's. One involved me finding my Ric 4003 in the living room except the neck had ridiculously warped and the fingerboard was hanging on by a few splinters. I had another one about my Fender P-bass where I can almost see it rotting before my eyes, but I'm not upset, I was just viewing sort of it's life cycle. Another one with the P-bass was where I opened it's case to find numerous shoddy, unneeded pickup routs in the body and most of the hardware replaced with either really relic'd stuff or completely mismatched components.
Or like when you fall asleep in public, say on the train and wake up with a jolt. It feel like you've lept 3 feet in the air and feel so embarrased that everyone on the train saw you, but in reality, you've barely moved half an inch and no-one noticed. But not as bad as the guy I saw fall asleep on the train, sat on an aisle seat, and fell off onto the floor. Now that is embarrasing!
