I hate it when I go to try basses and I cant figure out what each knob does.

But that is better than trying a bass somewhere, and the salesman decides he should impress you with his wankerism. He picks up the bass, plugs it in, and then goes on a 3 minute solid wank/slap/crap/tapfest. I actually walked out of a GC once before I even got to pick up the bass!

Ain't that the truth! I hate that crap, and it is the main reason that I tend to avoid Guitar Center.

  5. i actually went to go sell a bass at GC a while ago.. and the dude jsut sat there and played it for like half an hour.. lol but nothing fancy.. jsut random bass lines.. beatles, tool, RATM.. stuff anybody would play while checking out a bass :p

  6. i used to be the same.
Theres usually only a volume, pickup balance, bass, mids and treble.
But i never understood the role of a "tone" knob. what the hell does it actually do?

  7. They're not ALL bad, but I've seen that a number of times at my local Sam Ash. Actually, the Guitar Center in Tampa that I go to is usually staffed with some good, helpful people - the old Mars Music people, who were always friendlier and more helpful then the Sam Ash guys. Still, you'll find those wanker salesmen - can't stand 'em.

Edit: I just realized we're derailing the thread. Yes, I do hate it when I can't figure it out. Being a passive Fender guy for a while, I couldn't ever figure out what having four or five knobs could do. Eventually, I figured out what the EQ knobs on MusicMan basses were.

  8. from what i understand, it does treble mids and bass all in one.. pretty much a one band EQ

    BZZZZT...it rolls off treble.

The "treble mids and bass all in one EQ" knob is usually labelled VOLUME :D

It's easy to tell what each knob does:

    1. Play a note

    2. Turn knob

    3. Listen

    :hyper:

  14. haha, im actually the only hairy dude in the band lol

im using "hairy" as a metaphore for how dirty the music is suppsoed to sound :p

but "hairy" is literal to me personally hehe

  15. Isn't there someone on here with a Conklin custom shop with like 8 knobs? Now lets see...

    1. Volume
    2. Bass
    3. Mid
    4. Treble
    5. Blend
    6. ?
    7. ?
    8. ?

Those ? are sometimes related to the piezos, i.e. piezo/magnetic blend or midi volume, etc. Most conklins I've seen have 7 knobs.
