when i strum my e string fast i don't get a clear note, so i was wondering if a thinner gauge would help. I'm too cheap to go out and just by some strings to find out for myself.
  2. What do you mean "clear sound"? does it vibrate to much off the neck or frets? In which case you might need to adjust your intonation, relief or action. If the problem is fret buzz or because its too floppy, I doubt thinner gauges would help, in fact they might even make it worse. Also, could it be your pickups?

    uuhhhhh ... oh never mind
  5. it's most likely your technique. practice more.

by the way, active does not necessarily mean good.

    I know what you're thinking!;)
  8. A thicker E might help, or play closer to the bridge.
