I have ~$400 (+/-50$) to spend on a head...

    What should I get? (Ill be using a 8ohm Avatar 410)

    Depends on how much power you need. You'll most likely have to go used.

    If you have a pedal with enough output, you could probably buy a QSC RMX-1450 within your budget. Don't ask me what pedals will drive it adequately; I'm not a pedal guy.

    There are some decent priced used Bass heads at different Musicgoround locations.

    You may even be able to get a poweramp/preamp combo in your price range.
     
  5. You could probably even score a used older mid-powered (300-400 watts) Trace Elliot if you looked hard enough.

    for that kind of scratch, i'd go for either used SM400S or AMP BH-420. but that's just me ;)


    OR pick up a used peavey boat anchor power amp and yamaha preamp. it'd be heavy but it'd sound good!

    and ducttape the two together til you get a rack or make one yourself (super easy, super cheap).
