  1. hey ya'll..
I have this question that's been bothering me for awhile...is there anyway that I could get me 4 string bass and turn it into a 5 string bass (ya know, like send it to a Luthier n'have'em do so)
if so..how much does it cost anywhoo?
I've been wanting to know that for awhile..so if anyone knows..tell me....please......ok? ok
    peace out

Personally, I guess I would trade in or sell the 4 string and buy a 5 string.

I remember seeing a kit that would allow you to do that. It included and a nut. I don't really remember exactly how it worked...it seemed kind of strange: the "B" tuner was on the bridge so you didn't have to add a tuner on the headstock, or something weird like that.

Anyway, if you came across something like that, you've got to keep in mind that the string-spacing would be dramatically changed.

But, if you really wanted to spend the money, anything's possible;)

  4. I saw that kit a while ago too... it looks like the D string attached where the string tree on a fender bass is and tuned at the bridge. I don't think that I would like 5 strings crammed into a space where 4 belong, but it would probably be cheaper than buying a 5.

Hey JB, you're from Portland... There's a local guy that I took a few lessons from back in '94 that had a P-Bass setup with that same kit. Very playable, sounded good... I believe he was going for a high C rather than the B, but the specifics are lost to me in the mists of the past...
