    Correct me if I'm wrong, but that graph is suggesting that global temperatures are affected by the numbers of pirates worldwide. If so, the graph is correct; independent variables should be placed on the X axis. If the graph is trying to indicate that the pirate population is harmed by global warming, which I do not believe is the case, then temperature should be placed on the X axis. Most research has indicated that the reduction in pirates is the primary cause of global warming, and as such, the graph is correct.
