As the title states, I know almost nothing about pickups. I have some questions:

    1) What is a J/P style pickup? I see people always talking about the difference.

    2) What is the difference between the bridge and neck pickup? I've noticed the bridge is almost "lighter". Is this true?

    3) I'd like to knwo some good quality pickups. Are humbuckers and Bortolini good? How about others? Thank you!

    Hi Joe,
Most of your questions will be answered by reading the FAQ at the top of the forum page.

J means Jazz, the type of pickup on a Fender Jazz bass. P means Precision, the type of pup on a Fender Precision bass. PJ means one of each.

The difference between bridge and neck pickups is whether they are positioned closer to the bridge or closer to the neck.

There are many, many, many good brands. Do some reading here in the forum. FWIW "humbuckers" are a type of pickup, not a brand. Humbuckers don't have as much background noise as "single coil" pickups, but some people still prefer the tone of single-coils.
