I really do. I don't know for sure how many. It's at least 35, might be closer to 40.

I don't know whether I should stop or just go for it.

Update: Several folks mentioned pics. I put 15 at the end of the thread (for now). It's what was at hand. There are more.

Basses, I'm assuming? In my opinion, less is more. Nothing makes me sadder than an unplayed bass!

But in the end, it's about what makes you happy. Are you happy with that many? Or are there only one or two that you really connect with? Narrow it down and you can begin to thin the herd. It also adds a healthy chunk to your bank account!

I play them all. There aren't really any duplicates. What it comes down to is whether I want the trouble of storing and maintaining a collection. We are close to the needing-a-set-of-lighted-display-cabinets-phase. I like them as instruments and objects. I don't really collect or indulge in much else. Hence my dilemma.

In that case, if you're set on eliminating some, you could look at duplicate basses or basses that do almost the same thing, and cut out the duplicates. Like if you've got 8 P-basses, or 8 basses that have the same sound, you could start there

  5. 35-40, huh?

It's evident that you have a gargantuan hole in your soul that you are trying to fill with gear. And unfortunately it's too late for you to ever hope to attain a state of nirvana on the path you have chosen.

The best you can hope for is gaining a modicum of personal satisfaction from educating the masses on the error of your ways.

As such, your only option to keep the demons at bay is to purchase as much, as many and as often as your means will permit.

Go forth and shop. Go forth and educate.

    I feel your pain.
Luckily my income level has me capped at 15. If I was well off, I'd be in big trouble.

"I have too many" I'm assuming you mean something like "more cases and stands than basses", and you need to even things out by buying more basses, right?

You know the old joke about all men who collect something, right? Our greatest fear is that when we die our wives will sell the collections for what we told her we paid for them. ;)
