I just bought Gary Willis' Bent

  1. I just got Gary Willis' cd Bent..
I has some pretty cool jazz funk fusion grooves.. It's nice.. I dont own too many albums on the style of this one but I got just a little bit dissapointed. It is not what I expected. It's not to bash Mr. Willis.. I liked it but I thought it would be more like a complete solo bass album. In many of the songs, there is not enough job done on bass, as on other instruments..

    just an opinion..

Can anyone recommend me another album in which Gary Willis shows a bit more of his skills?

Man...IMO, this IS Willis' best album.
I don't think he has anything out there like, say, Wooten's A Show Of Hands.

Personally, I prefer hearing bassists in ensemble-type environments vs. the "solo bass" album.
    ...that's me, though.

I'm with you, Jim, on this one. I put bass solo albums in a category with drum solo albums. Each to his own, but for me, I prefer a band to one solo instrument. In fact, I'm not even very fond of guitar, harp or piano solo albums. Give me a good trio, quartet, band or orchestra.
