"I like my band, because...________"

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by Chad Michael, Dec 21, 2003.

  1. Ok, so why do you like your band? What is it that makes the rehearsals, politics, smoky lounges, or stuffy churches, & gear handling all worthwhile?

    For me:

    The fact that I:
    1) Get to work with such talent
    2) Play bass on the groovy songs
    3) Play keyboards
    4) Sing backing vox
    5) Run sound
    6) Do electronic percussion

    1. The guys I play with are good ****s and fun to be around.
    2. The music we play is fun to play (blues/rock)
    3. Rehearsal is an excuse to get together and have some fun.
    4. Gigs are never for the money, just for the fun.

    I see a trend: "It's FUN!"

I can bring something to the table.
    A great bunch of guys
I get to play in front of people
    "the chicks"
It's a lot better then playing by myself.
    To help pay for gear

    the list is very long
  6. Stupid Matt & Im a sock...

Do you guys do session work? Solo?

Ever been in a band that you were happy with?

Seems to me that "being your only band member" would be about as satisfying as being your own girlfriend.

"To each, his own ..." I guess.

Best way, less arguments. Some day I'll jam in a band again.

    ... we suck less.
  9. 1. I love playing, and the band is fun.
    2. The songs, while not even remotely difficult in a technical sense, are simply phenomenal, and each new one seems to be better than the last.
    3. It seems this band actually has a legitimate chance of "making it"...
    4. Our manager has a suite at the Palace of Auburn Hills, so we got to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra for free last night :D
    5. Some of the relationships in the band are so ridiculously dysfunctional that I wonder how some people are still around, yet it's also hilarious to watch and everything still seems to work out.
    6. I don't really enjoy playing by myself.

    For my second band...
    1. It's fun and the songs are very good.
    2. The guys are some of my closest friends.

    I like my band because...

... it has some nice guys playing in it, including a great bassist! ;)

    On the other hand:

    I wish we practiced more.
    I wish we gigged more.
I would like to contribute more.
I wish we had a smaller PA.
I wish my drummer was more responsive to email.

    For me:
    1. the guitarist and drummer are my 2 best friends.
    2. Its a relaxed environment.
    3. They arent anti-bass and dont mind it when i can actually be heard.

I've been getting into solo stuff as of late. Session work would be nice and is something I'm looking to get into as soon as I can.

I haven't been in a successful band situtation in quite a while, and playing solo has it's own set of difficulties (filling space, using the bass as a melodic insturment, etc), and IMO, I'm learning more about the bass and music in general by doing it all myself. Plus it's challenging, which I enjoy quite a bit.

And as far as being my own girlfriend is concerned, it sure would save me money! :p
  13. fix yur' ridicously stupid sig, please, fig.

i like my band becuase the other members *can* be funny guys, and IM expected to be the showoff.

    thats really about it...

I like my band for a few reasons. First, we are adding a cello and keyboards. It's great fun. More importantly, we are all geeks. Geeks are so much fun to hang out with.

Hey Bimplizkit, what band are you in? I'd like to check it out some time.

    The material's good.
There's a lot of creative freedom.
The players are good and actually friends outside of the band. We socialize regularly.
    We play nice venues.
    We travel well together.
The project's organized and with well defined goals and everyone's dedicated to it.

UnsungZeros The only winning move is not to play.

    1. I live for those moments that I get to lose myself in the music that I'm creating with my closest friends.
    2. We have the proper balance of screwing around and actually working.
    3. In addition to being amazing friends, they are also amazing musicians.
    4. Playing with others is so much more enjoyable than by one's self.
    5. We're pretty layed back and there is no need to rush things.
    6. I get to do back up vocals and even do lead on a few songs.
    7. We all relate to each other very well because we're all a bunch of dorks.
    8. We have similar but not identical musical tastes which leads to good music because we don't fight over what we want to write/play and it gives us enough musical diversity for it to sound interesting.
    9. Good Times, Good Music, Good People. What else more could I ask for?
  20.

My new band is called "Big Bang", our next show is at Curly's on Jan. 16....
Thanks to all for sharing what you like about your band. :)
